Vacuum Sintering Cannot Ignore Inlet Filtration

Vacuum sintering is a technology of sintering ceramic billets at vacuum. It can control the carbon content of raw materials, improve the purity of hard materials and reduce product oxidation. Compared to ordinary sintering, vacuum sintering can better remove adsorbed gases, improve material purity, and achieve sintering at various temperatures.

We all know that a vacuum pump is an essential equipment to use vacuum sintering. However, a large amount of powder will be generated during the sintering process. The powder will wear out the pump and pollute the pump oil if it is sucked into the pump. Hence, it is necessary to use an inlet filter to filter powder and protect the vacuum pump.

Many inlet filters may look the same on the outside, but the filter element inside may be made of completely different materials. For small powders, we usually use filter elements made of wood pulp paper and polyester non-woven fabric for filtration. However, these two types of filter elements are not suitable for vacuum sintering process because they are not high temperature resistant. They are only applicable to temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. So the vacuum sintering process will use high temperature resistant stainless steel filter elements. In addition, the casing of the inlet filter is generally made of carbon steel, but the casing used in the vacuum sintering process is made of stainless steel as well as its elements. But due to the limitations of sealing gaskets and glue, stainless steel filter elements are only suitable for temperatures below 200 degrees Celsius. If the working environment is above 200 degrees Celsius, it is necessary to consider installing cooling equipment.
